St. Martin 2010

We just got back from vacation to St. Martin in the Caribbean. I realize that is a blog dedicated to Northwest food & wine, but I would be remiss if I didn't post up about the amazing food we had there. St. Martin is known as the "Gastronomic Capital of the World". Whether you are looking for ribs from a beach bar, lobster thermador from a fancy french restaurant or whatever your stomach desires, you can find it there.

This is how most mornings would start - Almond croissant and raisin sweetroll with a cappuccino. Light, flaky and buttery. Most of the time we would get pastries to go and enjoy them on the beach. You cannot beat that!

Palm Beach is technically a beach bar because it's on the beach, but it's a far cry from a tiki hut. With warm breezes and the sound of the crashing surf we noshed on beef carpaccio with foie gras. Hows that for decadent? We also enjoyed a lovely Dona Paula Malbec with our meal.

Another highlight of our trip was Ti Bouchon. This is a repeat visit for us and did not disappoint. The owner Momo, always delights us with stories and experiences. Plus his wine recommendations are spot on. We started our meal with an awesome appetizer of shrimp with a cucumber coulis and strawberry salsa. Main courses included seared scallops for me and slow roasted rack of veal for the hubby. Everything was amazing as always. Thank you Momo!

We immensely enjoyed our vacation to St. Martin. We have had such awesome food, great wine, and met some amazing people. I hope that we are able to continue our yearly visits to this wonderful island!
